This fabulous locally produced product is a great substitute for olive oil. It has a lustrous appearance, and is ideal when cooking as it has a higher flash (burn) point than olive oil.
It has a lower carbon foot print due to the rapeseed being grown on the farms just outside Kilkeel and also in Waringstown. Many celebrity chefs now endorse rapeseed such as James Martin, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstal are devotees.
It also has many health benefits as it contains Omegas 3, 6, and 9 essential fatty acids which reduces cholesterol, maintains brain function, joint mobility and a healthy heart. It has about half the saturated fat found in olive oil and is also a good source of vitamin E. It is suitable for a variety of diets including gluten-free and vegetarian. It does not contain any trans-fats.
Rapeseed oil comes from the golden fields of rapeseed flowers you will see growing over Co Down and Armagh in Northern Ireland.
